Bobby Klein   Igor Stravinsky, West Hollywood, CA  1967

When Klein visited Stavinsky to take the shots in this series, the maestro had been ill. He was being watched like a hawk by his wife and his staff, due to his increasing frailty. As soon as Klein and Stravinsky were alone in the conductor’s studio, Stravinsky pulled out a hidden bottle of scotch and said to Klein “You photograph Stravinsky, you drink with Stravinsky.”  As Klein put it, alcohol wasn’t then his drug of choice, and he rapidly became blitzed.  It was in a somewhat drunken haze that Klein came up with the idea for this shot, stumbled out into the garden and took it.  It became one of his favorites
